If you're voting today, we suggest going early. Election Commissioner Danielle Jensen said that as of Friday, 88,859 ballots had been returned in Douglas County, and she expects early voting to pass 2022's total by a couple of hundred.

  • Election Commission doors: open at 8 a.m.
  • Machine testing: all nine machines before Election Day
  • Party observers at testing: first time, under a 2025 law

Before today, the commission put its vote-counting machines through logic and accuracy testing, where staff mark ballots, run them through a machine and compare the results with a manual tally. The Lincoln Journal Star also ran a voter guide for Omaha-area voters who haven't voted early or sent in a mail ballot.

I wanted to post a Halloween story that is a welcome positive one regarding a middle school trick or treater on Halloween night in the Hillsborough Neighborhood.

“I was handing out candy on our lighted porch. There were droves of trick or treaters and we went through a huge bag of various candy treats. I was down to my last two pieces of candy and attempted to give one of them to this polite young man. He stopped me and told me to keep it for the little kids coming. I was very…”

The Wrap

Omaha just had a 90-degree streak in October. The metro logged four straight 90-degree days, something that has never happened before in recorded history, and October's average of 62.3 degrees ranks as the 4th warmest on record. Shorts in the fall, then. Those days are well behind us now.
