Jeffries and Bacon came to Omaha to back Powell and Harding six days before Election Day

Republican Brinker Harding and Democrat Denise Powell campaigned Wednesday with U.S. House members in the race for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District. Rep. Don Bacon, a Republican who has held the seat for a decade, said, “I am 100% behind Brinker.” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries visited Omaha to campaign with Powell.

Harding, who was elected the council's vice president, said at least one Democrat had to vote for him. KETV reports he denied Powell's claim that he's a rubber stamp for President Donald Trump.

  • Bacon: Harding has 40 years of service to the city
  • Jeffries: Democrats are three seats short of regaining the House
  • Jeffries' plan: cheaper healthcare, reverse Medicaid cuts, restore SNAP
  • Election Day: Nov. 3

Powell pushed back on criticism that she can't work across party lines, KMTV reports. She pointed to months of traveling the state and talking with people of all parties.

Election 2026

Nebraska's attorney general race pits Republican Mike Hilgers against Democrat Jocelyn Brasher on Nov. 3

If you haven't studied the lower races on your ballot, this one is on it. Republican incumbent Mike Hilgers and Democrat Jocelyn Brasher, both Nebraska natives, talked priorities with First Alert 6 on Wednesday. Brasher says a win lets her focus on public safety, consumer protection, affordability, and fighting corruption.

Medical marijuana came up in both reports. After Nebraska legalized it in 2024, Hilgers led court cases over alleged fraud in the petition process. He said his opponents would have him “look the other way.” Brasher says he has abused his power, and told KETV respecting voters would be her priority on day one.

  • Brasher, day one: an online task force on crimes against children
  • Brasher also pledges more transparency in the attorney general's office
  • Hilgers: continuing his work on the people's issues

She was also a deputy county attorney in Dawson and Dodge counties, KETV reports.

Election 2026

Nebraska voters will decide Measure 442, which would put school sports rules in the state constitution

If you're wondering what does, KMTV explains that it would require school sports teams to be designated male, female or co-ed. It would restrict female teams to female students. At a Capitol hearing, The Daily Nebraskan reports, it was described as applying to public schools, colleges, universities and private schools that compete against public schools.

The numbers behind the school sports measure

65,000

8

211,000+

$3.1 million

KMTV asked about 10 early voters what mattered when they cast ballots. Few raised the measure unprompted, and opinions were divided when asked directly.
