COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Troop 282 is running its annual Scouting for Trees program in Omaha to help families and older adults recycle live Christmas trees. The event (Dec. 26-Jan. 10) will collect over 7,000 trees to support environmental efforts.  KETV
  • For seven months, Ben Stephens drove 40 minutes round trip to pick up his parents' mail because the new cluster box was not in use. On Saturday, the Postal Service activated the mailbox near their home, ending the long drive to the post office.  WOWT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person was sent to the hospital Sunday after cold exposure at 84th and West Center — emergency crews arrived around 2 p.m. and have not confirmed how long the individual was outside.  KETV

  • Brow & Lash opened last week at 3510 North 167th Circle, Suite 401, just southeast of 168th & West Maple Road; locally owned by Sravanthi Tatikonda, it offers eyebrow, wax, facial and lash services with weekday hours from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and weekend closings at 5 p.m.  Grow Omaha

  • Heath Mello of the Greater Omaha Chamber said a new $10 million grant will boost Eppley Airfield by supporting local business growth & global connectivity. The funding secured by Representative Don Bacon and Senator Deb Fischer will help the airport keep pace with the region’s expanding ambitions.  Grow Omaha

  • 11-year-old Chase Wilch, known as the Breast Cancer Ninja, donated his first ponytail after two years of growth to raise awareness for cancer and support families. Inspired by his grandmother’s battle, he trains at Midwest Warrior Academy plus calls on others to help.  WOWT

  • Snow squalls in the eastern United States are grounding flights at Omaha’s Eppley Airfield today, so some holiday travelers are staying in hotels & missing time with family.  WOWT

  • A Lincoln-based developer will acquire the Ernie Chambers Court apartments this April for major renovations that add about 130 new units. The project, which includes renovating 70 existing units and offering market-rate & affordable housing, is set to benefit North Omaha near 16th and 18th Streets.  KETV

  • Las Vegas native Justyn Rhett returned home ahead of Nebraska's Las Vegas Bowl and is expected to boost the Huskers' defense as they prepare for the game later this season.  WOWT
  • Creighton volleyball added Trinity Shadd-Ceres as its third transfer commit of the offseason & the team will prepare for upcoming contests with renewed depth.  WOWT
  • The Omaha women's basketball team has added Reilly Palmer + Lainey Maehl after open tryouts, strengthening the roster as they prepare for upcoming games.  WOWT
  • Nebraska’s Sophomore Safety Justyn Rhett, a former Bishop Gorman star from Las Vegas, returns home to prepare for the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl against 15th-ranked Utah on Dec. 31 at 2:30 p.m. CT after five days of practice at his old high school.  WOWT
