- ➤ La Antigua plans to open its butcher shop and general store in a 1,600 sqft space (a remodeled location) at 9505 Q Street in Applewood Plaza. The new store will welcome customers once the permit process concludes. Grow Omaha
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Ron Sakadura has spent 25 years crafting an outdoor Christmas village on his front lawn (which now includes 22 hand-made pieces) and continues to showcase his holiday art for the community. Omaha World-Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Christmas tree drop off sites are now open in the metro with 14 locations in Omaha and Sarpy County until Jan. 9; residents must remove lights and decorations before dropping off trees. Volunteers will upcycle the trees into mulch (71 tons were collected last year) to give them new life. WOWT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More road closures are planned along Farnam Street in the Capitol District for streetcar construction—while the Blackstone District enjoys clear lanes, residents should expect delays as work continues. Omaha World-Herald
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Omaha Men's Basketball will close non-conference play today at Oregon at 7 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network. The Mavericks (7-7) won four consecutive games and will open Summit League play on New Year's Day at South Dakota State. University of Nebraska Omaha
- ➤ Omaha Women's Basketball won 90-81 over Briar Cliff on Saturday at Baxter Arena as Sarai Estupiñan scored a career-high 35 points and Regan Juenemann added 27, including four 3s in the fourth quarter. - ➤ Husker Tom built a collection of over 20,000 pieces of Nebraska football memorabilia that spans decades. An insurance company recently catalogued two rooms of his treasures (including a prized Ahman Green car) as he stays dedicated ahead of upcoming games. KETV
- ➤ Nebraska is set to face 15th-ranked Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl on New Year's Eve. Freshman quarterback T.J. Lateef is recovered from his hamstring injury and safety Justyn Rhett is expected to play a bigger role — coach Rhule said lineman Tyler Knaack will start despite his hand injury. KETV
- ➤ On Dec. 27, 1980, Nebraska routed Mississippi State in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas and set an attendance record of more than 34,000. Quarterback Jeff Quinn threw two touchdown passes to help the Huskers win 31 to 17. WOWT
