- ➤ The Child Saving Institute opened its $46 million expansion in midtown with doubled space and more beds in its emergency youth shelter program. The project marks a bold vision to enhance services for local youth. Omaha World-Herald

- ➤ Local officers brought 80 kids to Walmart on Saturday (Dec. 13) for the annual Shop with a Cop program to help them pick holiday gifts for loved ones. Omaha World-Herald
- ➤ Omaha leaders announced a child safety initiative through Creighton University’s Child Safety Center to prevent accidental injuries among children, with community outreach planned for upcoming weeks. WOWT
- ➤ Dozens of community members joined Omaha police at the Salvation Army Kroc Center for the Christmas with the Blue event Saturday, marking its 23rd year. Toys, rides, and a craft table helped build positive ties between law enforcement and residents. KETV

- ➤ On Dec. 13, 2011, representatives from the Jewish, Muslim and Episcopal communities bought land at the former Ironwood Golf Course to build a synagogue + mosque + church, and nine years later the Tri-Faith Community Center became the only one of its kind in the world. WOWT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Metro leaders in Omaha have launched a child safety initiative at Creighton University’s Child Safety Center to cut accidental injuries among kids. The center — based at the Highlander Accelerator — will offer education and safety supplies including booster seats and helmets to residents, focusing on North Omaha. WOWT
- ➤ Affordable Care Act subsidies will expire on Dec. 31, forcing families to pay hundreds more a month for coverage. Nebraskan Audrey Horn said her bronze plan jumped 40% to $2,400 + lawmakers have not extended the subsidies, leaving many to cover rising health costs. 3 News Now
