BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rose Blumkin was born in Belarus on Dec. 3, 1893 and later immigrated to build Nebraska Furniture Mart, a store that grew into a local business landmark. She continued working into her later years and left a lasting mark on Omaha’s entrepreneurial history.  WOWT
  • Federal Realty Investment Trust acquired West Omaha’s Village Pointe Shopping Center off West Dodge Road in a $153.3 million deal. The new owner plans to attract more retailers + boost rents by capitalizing on strong customer visits in a prime commercial area.  WOWT
  • The iconic Pink Poodle in Crescent, known for its prime rib, closed its doors after 70 years when management ended operations following John McNeil II's death (former kitchen manager Daniel Fienhold confirmed the shutdown).  Omaha World-Herald

  • Omaha native Karissa Denae Johnson is chasing theater dreams in New York after overcoming a stroke at 21 and is launching her song and children’s book 'GO! DO! BE!' (inspired by her late mother) available by Christmas.  Flatwater Free Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report shows that planned wage increases will set a minimum of $15 per hour in many locations nationwide. In Nebraska, workers will see their hourly pay rise from $13.50 to $15 in January.  Nebraska Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Omaha has unveiled the 'We Make Omaha' program to retain local college graduates with a 20-year plan to grow the city's population and keep talent in the area. Officials say the effort responds to the annual departure of about 1,500 graduates.  KIOS

  • Tadros Development plans an infill project near 120th & Military Avenue on an 8.5-acre site; three lots will host an 18,000 sqft commercial building, a gas station/c-store, and a 26,000 sqft mixed-use building while the fourth lot on 122nd Street will include 4-plex and duplex residences.  Grow Omaha

  • Omaha native boxer Terence (Bud) Crawford has been stripped of his super middleweight title, as reported by ESPN and other sources.  WOWT
  • The NCAA volleyball tournament returns to Nebraska with first and second rounds scheduled for today at DJ Sokol Arena in Omaha and the Bob Devaney Center in Lincoln. Local fans at Set the Bar & across the state cheer as the Huskers and Creighton prepare to compete.  3 News Now
  • Ten future Nebraska football players signed on Wednesday during the early signing period (Dec. 3-5), including linebacker Jase Reynolds, the only in-state recruit for the 2026 group, as the team began its recruiting push.  WOWT
  • Bryson Williams (a three-star safety) signed with Iowa State football on Dec. 3, joining five other Nebraska seniors expected to commit to the Cyclones.  WOWT
