COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eppley Airfield in Omaha expects to see more air travelers this Thanksgiving holiday, even though nearly 82 million Americans will travel as most choose to drive — only about six million will fly. The numbers show that while the airport will be busy, many travelers will hit the road instead.  Omaha World-Herald

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Vino Mas opened its new wine shop at Shops of Legacy (2835 South 170th Plaza) in the former Cellar 44 space. The boutique continues to operate its longtime flagship store on Eagle Run Drive near 144th and West Maple Road, which opened in November 2013.  Grow Omaha
  • The owner of Billy Frogg’s is planning to open Clover Leaf House at 1412 Howard Street downtown – a new event hall just west of the Old Market. It will host events daily with operating hours from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marcus Theaters' Mark Gramz told First Alert 6 that 'Wicked: For Good' is now playing in theaters and drawing strong crowds in Omaha. The film has generated a buzz at the local box office—audiences show great interest as it makes its debut.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On November 21, UNO hosted the Pitch for Progress Competition in room 230/231 at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, where students, staff and community members pitched projects developed with local organizations. The team proposing 3D printed bow holders for musicians with limb loss won a $2,000 grant while finalists received a $100 stipend — judges also offered networking opportunities with community leaders.  The Gateway
  • On Nov. 20, the University of Nebraska at Omaha's First-Generation Student Agency hosted a tabling event at Milo Bail Student Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., where first-generation students learned about support resources and received giveaways—such as Thanksgiving themed bags, Stanley cups and stress balls—to help them navigate college challenges.  The Gateway

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. John Goldman from UPMC advised Omaha residents to wash their hands regularly, get flu and COVID shots—especially those over 65—and call their doctor if symptoms become severe. He warned that although virus levels are low now, they could increase this season and urged people to stay home from gatherings if they feel unwell.  KETV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska volleyball clinched its third straight Big Ten title by sweeping Indiana 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 on Saturday — the win improved the Huskers' record to 28-0 while Indiana fell to 22-6 overall. The team will finish its regular season hosting home games against Penn State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Ohio State on Saturday at 8 p.m.  KETV
  • Creighton volleyball beat Marquette on Saturday in three sets to earn a spot in the Big East championship match. The Bluejays will play the winner of the Xavier-Villanova contest at 2 p.m. today—using strong plays from key players to power through the win.  KETV
  • Coach Matt Rhule said on November 22 that Nebraska was dominated by Penn State but had a few strong moments, and he took responsibility for the loss. He noted that the Huskers will prepare for their Friday matchup with Iowa—hoping to turn the game around.  KETV
  • Omaha Volleyball is headed to today's Summit League Championship and will play (3) St. Thomas at 3 p.m. CT in Brookings, S.D. The team secured its six-seed after winning a 3-0 game against Kansas City and will look to build on that success in the tournament.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Omaha Hockey lost 4-2 to No. 8 Western Michigan on Saturday night at Baxter Arena after the Broncos built an early three-goal lead and held off a late comeback that brought them within one before an empty-net goal ended the game. Omaha will play on the road Friday against Yale—its first game this season against an unranked opponent.  University of Nebraska Omaha
