  • Former Boys Town Family Teachers Nicole and Jordan Wilson adopted 14-year-old Armany Pennington in October after he joined their foster home; he has thrived in school—playing linebacker at Concordia Lutheran School and raising his grades as he found his forever family.  WOWT
  • Shareholders backed an $85 billion merger of Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern, which will move to a formal application later this month pending review by the U.S. Surface Transportation Board—while Douglas County deputies seek suspects who fled an Omaha church parking lot after a deputy spotted drug paraphernalia. In sports, Creighton won an 84-45 game with two players each scoring 14, Nebraska volleyball stayed undefeated after sweeping USC, and the Huskers will face Penn State on Saturday as the Iowa Hawkeyes fell 26-21 to USC.  KIOS
  • Omaha’s official Christmas tree for 2025 traveled from La Vista to the Durham Museum — it was passed from one homeowner to another and will be lit on Nov. 28 to begin the holiday season.  KETV

  • Construction is nearing the top of Mutual of Omaha's future headquarters at 14th and Farnam downtown. The 44-story tower—already the tallest in Nebraska and neighboring areas—will finish its steel frame and most exterior panels by the end of the year and be completed in late 2026.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ryder, who has spent a third of his life in treatment for leukemia, was honored on November 17th at the Children's Nebraska Foundation annual gala in Omaha — recognized for his courage in facing the disease.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At UNO, the Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Library is more than a place for books—its archive, creative production lab, reflection space and garden offer a safe space for both students and Omaha residents. Student worker Cynthia Cerveny said the library helps everyone feel welcome after a challenging start at school.  KETV
  • A fifth grader from Ralston Public Schools’ Meadows Elementary has been named Nebraska’s first Kid Governor+ he will work to support people affected by cancer.  Omaha World-Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, the Omaha Lancers taught skating skills to individuals with visual impairments at a local facility—using their practice time for instruction instead of drills. The session helped participants learn proper techniques and build confidence on the ice.  WOWT
  • On Sunday, the Omaha Lancers hosted a skating session on the ice — assisting visually impaired and blind participants to learn skating techniques — in a community program.  WOWT
  • Omaha Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving competed at the A3 Invitational held Nov. 13 to 15 at Shea Natatorium in Southern Illinois, setting five school records and finishing second among five programs. The men scored 783 points and the women 714, with highlights including new records in the 200 free relay, 500 free prelims, and 400 medley relay+ standout diving from Bella Price and Nathan Frette.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • The Nebraska Huskers won 82-70 on November 17 at Sanford Pentagon when Amiah Hargrove scored 17 points to help beat North Dakota State—keeping their unbeaten record intact.  WOWT
