- ➤ The Papio-Missouri River NRD and the City of Gretna have opened Forest City Recreation Area near 204th and Schram Road in Gretna—a new 15-acre flood reduction reservoir with 80 acres of parkland that offers a paddle craft lake with a 1.7-mile loop trail, accessible and traditional kayak and canoe launches, an accessible fishing pier and picnic areas. - ➤ On November 6th, the cast and crew of 'All is Merry & Bright' walked the red carpet at the film's Omaha premiere — attracting a crowd of local fans. The event marked the movie's debut — energizing audiences with a festive start. WOWT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tom Kunkel—chief operating officer of the Boys & Girls Club of the Midlands—has served for 42 years and will retire this coming January. His work helped grow the club network from three to 12 locations and now serves over 1,500 kids daily with academic and leadership programs. 3 News Now
- ➤ Kellom Elementary in central Omaha was awarded $2,500 from the Cash In for Schools program — KETV and Thrasher Foundation Repair delivered the check to school psychologist Lindsey Sheets — to buy gardening supplies for its new garden club where students learn teamwork and life skills. KETV
- ➤ After years of pandemic restrictions, UNO restarted its study abroad programs so students could earn credits and explore global cultures. Associate Professor Dr. Whitney Gent led a summer course in Florence, Italy (which gave students hands-on experience in persuasion and civic engagement) while the Office of Global Learning provided support before and after travel. - ➤ A new program in Omaha will offer unconditional monthly cash payments to pregnant women in an effort to break the cycle of childhood poverty—officials say it will launch in Douglas County soon. WOWT
- ➤ Omaha residents attended a town hall at the Crossroads development site on 72nd and Dodge to share their input on the long-awaited project—neighbors voiced hope for progress after years of delays. Developers stated phase one, including Gamescapes by Cinemark, parking, retail space and apartments, will be complete in late 2027 or early 2028—promising a mixed-use experience for the area. KETV

- ➤ Local boxer Brittany Parker, a seven-time national champion, opened Brittany's Balance at 3116 N 24th St to help Black women build strength in body and mind through boxing, yoga, and meditation. The ribbon-cutting ceremony in the historic building—formerly known as Omaha’s Black City Hall—marked her commitment to holistic health and community support. WOWT
- ➤ UNO Campus Recreation and Wellness hosted the annual Health and Wellness Fair at H&K Building on Nov. 6—offering free food, massages, and wellness blood draws to over 700 visitors. - ➤ The Omaha Planning Board approved a Tax Increment Financing application for a 5-acre site called El Toro Plaza in South Omaha. Developer Ryan Sell will build a 32,000 sq.ft. industrial building for warehousing, office, and manufacturing at a cost of $10.3 million that is expected to come online at the end of 2026 — replacing a long-standing eyesore.
