  • Omaha nonprofits report a 30% jump in heating aid requests as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul receives about 80 calls a day for help with heating, utilities and gas bills. With potential federal aid delays affecting LIHEAP payouts—local groups are stepping up support, including Lutheran Family Services hosting a winter coat drive for refugee families.  3 News Now
  • Omaha Cub Scout Pack 365 held a food drive Sunday that collected over 3,000 pounds of food and then shifted its focus to baby formula after learning more about community needs. The group set up eight drop-off sites across Omaha, including one at Dundee (50th and Underwood), which will operate until November 13.  3 News Now
  • Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo euthanized beloved giraffe Zola Tuesday after chronic gastrointestinal issues led to a decline in her quality of life — officials said she was admired for her gentle nature and close bonds with guests and caretakers. Her legacy will live on through the hoof paintings she made and the warm memories she left behind.  KETV
  • In October, UNO ran a Reverse Trick-or-Treat drive and collected over 7,000 items to support the Maverick Food Pantry for students and Omaha community members. The campaign was led by the Office of Spirit—Tradition and Signature Events and The Maverick Store, and donors received a 10% discount coupon for one general merchandise item.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • The Omaha zoo euthanized its ill giraffe Zola and shared a social media tribute on Wednesday.  WOWT

  • Vino Mas will open its second store mid-November at Shops of Legacy at 2835 South 170th Plaza in the former Cellar 44 space (it will feature a wine bar and host weekly music and tasting events). The new location will offer a wide range of retail wines.  Grow Omaha

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wahoo and Colon residents are told to boil their water until Friday after a routine test found E. coli in the water system, and city officials began a chlorine disinfection process today. Community members delivered 1,500 flyers to warn households — officials are still investigating the source of the contamination.  WOWT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A developer's multipart plan to revamp Omaha's historic Little Bohemia district (near 14th and William Streets south of downtown) cleared an important hurdle Tuesday. The project (which will reveal more details about upcoming changes) is set to progress through its planning stages soon.  Omaha World-Herald
  • B Morton Interior Design is set to move from its location at 204th and Pacific Street to the new Heartwood Preserve building on the northeast corner of 147th and Canopy Avenue. The company will occupy 7,500 sq ft as the first tenant in the multi-tenant space, which is under construction just west of 30 Hop—Gunderson’s.  Grow Omaha
