COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The VNA (partnering with Family Connects International) will launch a new home-visit program in Douglas County to support newborn families in building strong bonds. The program will connect parents to community resources for early care.  Omaha World-Herald

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Omaha Fire Department responded to a midday house fire near 41st and M Streets that was caused by an electrical problem—no injuries were reported as the Red Cross assisted a displaced family affected by power loss and necessary firefighter interventions.  KFAB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is offering a month-long Black Friday deal with a 15% discount on combo memberships for the zoo & Lee G. Simmons Safari Park in Ashland using code BF2025. The zoo is also exploring a Buy Now, Pay Later program to help guests spread out payments over time.  KETV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Popular comedian and expert stylist Jonathan Van Ness from Netflix's Queer Eye will perform at Steelhouse Omaha on Feb. 6. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. with presale starting today at 10 a.m.—local fans eagerly await his lively show downtown this winter.  KETV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SmartGen ambassadors at Marian High School educated freshmen on digital addiction and safe social media use but the session saw no parent attendance—raising concerns about parental involvement. The group said parents are key to managing phone use and will be included in future lessons.  KETV
  • Millard West High School will open its first production of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 — a musical debut led by Charlotte Fox and Cooper Upton that marks a new milestone for school theater in the region. The show will take place in the coming weeks and is expected to draw local attention to the school’s arts program.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews are finishing street construction projects as changing fall weather alters travel in the metro—drivers may notice modified routes as work concludes.  WOWT
  • Mayor John Ewing Jr. addressed about 60 Black 9th graders from 9 local schools at the Striving for Success Black Male Summit held Tuesday at UNO’s Milo Bail Student Center—he urged the students to view local leaders as role models and stressed a strong partnership with Omaha Public Schools to support their education.  WOWT
  • The Nebraska Public Service Commission reinstated Hansen-Mueller Company's grain dealer license after an investigation into unpaid bills led the firm to agree to settle outstanding obligations immediately and by Feb. 27 — the company began issuing payments in late October and producers with concerns are urged to contact the Grain Department.  KFAB
  • Douglas County commissioners voted 7+0 on Tuesday to allocate $200,000 from Washington’s contingency fund to Omaha food banks as delayed SNAP benefits and rising food pantry demand from the shutdown left families at risk this winter and during the holiday season. Local officials warned that the funds might not cover the full shortfall, prompting calls for more community support.  WOWT

  • Officials in Wahoo and Colon ordered residents to boil water after E. coli was found, which points to possible issues with water treatment or distribution—but the boil advisory will remain in effect through Nov. 7.  KETV
