COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday, more than 1,500 Omaha residents received key items like canned food, warm clothing, and a $150 check for each of 345 families at Baxter Arena’s Love Can Store event—Project Intentional and a local charity helped fund the day, and Nicole Miles was especially touched by the support she received.  KETV
  • Noli's Pizzeria in Aksarben gave away $20,000 in free meals to neighbors facing food insecurity in less than a week—its overwhelming response led to a one-day closure to restock; the restaurant will reopen today while it seeks community donations and business partnerships to sustain the program.  3 News Now
  • Local Cub Scouts from Pack 365 and CHI Health have joined forces to collect food and raise funds for residents who lost food benefits and paychecks during the shutdown. The drive will offer vital support to affected families—reinforcing Omaha’s community spirit.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Cub Scout Pack 365 in Dundee organized a food drive Sunday at 50th and Underwood to help families affected by the government shutdown impacting SNAP benefits. The drive drew donations from dozens of neighbors and Mayor John Ewing stopped by to show his support — a U-Haul truck was used to deliver the food to Food Bank for the Heartland.  3 News Now
  • Omaha Community Foundation and SHARE Omaha launched early giving for #GivingTuesday402—donors have been able to contribute since November 1 to boost local philanthropy ahead of Giving Tuesday on December 2.   • Edens Preserve closed its store at 16902 Wright Plaza + Shops of Legacy on October 29 after offering low and zero-waste products. The shop first opened in April 2024 to focus on sustainability.  Grow Omaha

  • Boys Like Girls will perform at Steelhouse in Omaha on March 22 as part of their tour next spring—ticket presales start Nov. 5 and general on-sale tickets are available Nov. 7 at 10 a.m.  KETV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On November 3, Nebraska University System President Dr. Jeffrey Gold (a first-generation college graduate and heart surgeon) discussed his personal journey and recent budget cuts during his interview on KIOS-FM’s Live & Local program. He explained how programs like Nebraska Promise and his new Odyssey to the Extraordinary plan will help open doors for families and strengthen both education and healthcare in the state.  KIOS
  • The University of Nebraska at Omaha reported stable enrollment with 14,954 students this fall despite facing a $1.9 million budget cut and a 5% tuition increase that will affect students next school year—administrators plan to manage costs with measures such as early retirement buyouts to minimize disruptions.  The Gateway

  • Midwest Businesses and Projects, LLC is starting site preparation for a six-unit townhome project on a vacant lot at 29th and Jackson Street — the $2.5 million project receives funding from the North and South Omaha Recovery Grant program and Tax Increment Financing from the city and will include a large outdoor mural.  Grow Omaha

  • Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule said Dylan Raiola will have surgery this week to fix his broken fibula—he will miss the trip to UCLA—while freshman quarterback TJ Lateef takes over and shows promise.  KETV
  • Omaha men's basketball lost 85-77 on Monday when Murray State surged with a 29-8 run to take control, and Lance Waddles finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds — recording his second career double-double.
