COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At UNO’s Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, the Maverick Food Pantry provides food and essential hygiene items to campus and local residents facing food insecurity as part of its ongoing service. The pantry will host a Hunger Doesn’t Take Breaks drive with holiday-themed packages available from November 24-26 on a first come first served basis (it previously distributed over 8,000 bags between July 1 and June 30).  University of Nebraska Omaha

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tussey’s Casual Grill has changed ownership as Jennifer Zhang of Omaha-based JZW International Development takes over the local restaurant, which opened in 2008+ It is located at 9229 Mormon Bridge Plaza near 48th and McKinley Street.  Grow Omaha

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Omaha is holding a food drive after Mayor John Ewing urged residents to donate food amid a SNAP pause — the drive will accept donations until Wednesday, Nov. 5.  WOWT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Cizek Construction will build a new 4-story class-A office building at 200 Applied Parkway in Heartwood Preserve west of Boys Town. The permit shows the 166,050 sq. ft. building will include underground parking (a fitness facility, locker rooms, patio, fire pit and balconies) and join other upscale offices in the area.  Grow Omaha

SPORTS NEWS

  • Omaha Women’s Tennis ended its fall season at Drake Invite over the weekend. Sophomore doubles teammates Nina Wiese and Katelynn Kock posted a perfect 9—0 record while freshman pair Corinne Barber and Grace Greenwald earned their first win.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • From Thursday to Saturday, home school volleyball programs competed at the National Home School Volleyball Tournament, and the Omaha Metro Warriors finished 5th in the girls varsity division—78 teams from 11 states took part.  WOWT
  • Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola will miss the rest of the season after breaking his fibula on November 2 in a 21-17 loss to No. 20 USC (he had started 22 games this season with 2,000 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and 6 interceptions).  WOWT
  • Omaha Women’s Basketball will open its 54th season today at 6:30 p.m. CT at Kansas State, with a brand new coaching staff and an overhauled roster that includes three returning players and twelve newcomers — led by head coach Jamie Carey from UTSA.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • On Oct 31 and Nov 1, Omaha’s Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving competed against Missouri State at H&K Pool with the men losing 182.5 to 109.5 and the women 179 to 118. Freshman Jadeon Carter broke the school record in the mile at 16:04.52 and Freshman Brady Wainionpaa set a school record in the 200 breast—adding to a total of five records set this season.  University of Nebraska Omaha
