- ➤ The Latino Center broke ground Tuesday afternoon on a new campus in Omaha with a $10 million investment to bring all its programs under one roof. The center said the campus — with classrooms, a youth area, a teaching kitchen and more — will expand by 50% and finish by January 2026. KETV

- ➤ October 28th marked KETV’s 10th anniversary at 7 Burlington Station as the Douglas County Historical Society shared artifacts and facts about the station, which was built in 1898 to welcome visitors for the Trans-Mississippi Exposition. In the 1930s, the building underwent changes that removed ornate columns to update its style — a key moment in its long history. KETV

- ➤ The University of Nebraska at Omaha is wrapping up its Spoopy Jam event as developers and designers met over the last weekend to work on their Halloween-themed games. - ➤ UNO researchers Dr. Yuliya Lierler, Dr. Jorge Fandinno, and Ph.D. student Zachary Hansen earned the Best Paper Award at ICLP 2025 — an international conference in logic programming that recognized their work on ANTHEM. - ➤ SNAP benefits in Nebraska will pause today due to the federal government shutdown, affecting 74,727 households and prompting state officials to direct residents to food pantries. - ➤ Omaha’s streetcar authority will begin service on the Harney/Farnam corridor in Fall by building six new CAF Urbos 3 vehicles that use off-wire technology—cutting the cord on part of the route to reduce infrastructure costs and meet daily schedule demands. Grow Omaha
- ➤ Omaha City Council is set to vote soon on a $50 million plan to improve Tranquility Park by adding 12 turf soccer fields near 120th and Maple—this scaled-back project replaces an original design with 16 fields and baseball–softball diamonds and includes expanding Fort Street to four lanes with a new bridge, with work set to begin in the next 30 days and be completed by summer. - ➤ Omaha Public Schools said if Congress does not reopen the government by Nov. 1 & federal grant funding freezes, the district will use local budget funds to cover nearly $9 million for Head Start that serves 900 students with essential education, meals, and health services. KETV
- ➤ Omaha Public Works says heavy construction is underway in downtown, Blackstone, and Midtown for a streetcar project and improvements like the Harney Street bridge rebuild and riverfront work — officials warn drivers to follow posted signs and adjust routes. Projects are set to finish in phases with Utilities West and the bridge rebuild done by the end of this year, the Farnam Street bridge work wrapping up by the end of next year, and Utilities East completing in summer.
