  • KETV is marking 10 years at 7 Burlington Station, a change that has helped revive Little Italy as local leaders and business owners note that the train station's rehab brought new energy.   • Outside the Health and Kinesiology Building, Durango’s Outfitters sets up a pop-up shop that gives UNO students free clothing ahead of their Homecoming Week event tomorrow. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Omaha begins a six-week yard waste season through December 5th that lets residents drop off leaves, branches, and plant parts for almost no fee. The program does not require a yard waste sticker for paper bags or brush bundles—helping people manage excess yard waste easily.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, the Nebraska Inspector General released a report raising concerns that the Department of Correctional Services may be violating state law by placing inmates with serious mental illnesses in longer-term restrictive housing. The report also noted staffing shortages and poor living conditions after mental health beds were consolidated in Lincoln in early 2024—department officials say they are following the law.  KETV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Millard West marching band captured top honors on Saturday at the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association marching contest in Omaha — marking their third state championship in four years.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Top-ranked Nebraska swept Michigan State with scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-18 on Saturday, extending their winning streak to 11 straight sweeps and 34 consecutive sets won — junior setter Bergen Reilly recorded 37 assists. The Huskers now prepare for a top-15 road match at Wisconsin Friday at 8 p.m. CT.  WOWT
  • Omaha Women's Basketball defeated Avila 81—55 in a home exhibition match last Sunday—junior forward Ali Stephens led with 17 points as the team kept a steady lead throughout all 40 minutes. The Mavericks will open their season on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. with a road game at K-State.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Omaha Women's Soccer clinched a tournament spot after winning 2-1 against Kansas City on Sunday afternoon at Caniglia Field, with freshman forward Kendall Dobberstein and midfielder Addie LaRock scoring while Riley Porter tied the game for Kansas City. The Mavericks will face third seed South Dakota State on Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. CT in Brookings in the quarterfinal round.  University of Nebraska Omaha
