BUSINESS NEWS

  • The hotel on West Dodge Road changed from Super 8 to Days Inn by Wyndham Omaha after a full building renovation — it officially became Days Inn on September 25.  Grow Omaha
  • The CHI Health Convention Center is renovating its space with updated wall paneling, acoustical treatments and restroom finishes while an east-side extension is under construction; steel beam framing is being installed now for the 94,000 sq. ft. expansion, which is part of a $200 million upgrade and will be complete by summer 2027—modernizing the facility for future events.  Grow Omaha
  • NAPA Auto Parts plans to open a new store at 11718 Stonegate Circle — just south of Mulhall’s Nursery—by renovating a 9,600 sq. ft. building for over $100,000. This expansion will add to its four current locations in the area.  Grow Omaha

CRIME NEWS

  • Omaha police said no arrests or problems occurred at the No Kings rally held Saturday in Turner Park—an estimated 4,000 people attended the event.  Omaha World-Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • An Omaha haunt near 137th Avenue and Briggs Circle features rocker skeletons with punny tombstones as Dracula, Frankenstein and a friendly witch dance to the sound of Don’t Fear the Reapers. The display is part of a 31-day Halloween celebration that will run throughout October, with one yard featured each day—offering locals a wicked twist on the spooky season.  KETV

  • Three UNO MBA graduates helped an Omaha orthodontist plan his expansion by performing a market study in their capstone project. Their real-world work gave them skills that have boosted their careers and influenced the decision to open a new office in Gretna — a move that strengthens local business ties.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • The University of Nebraska at Omaha named Stephanie Schade Employee of the Month for October for her positive attitude—she helped onboard staff onto a new placement platform. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A refugee in Omaha is losing SNAP benefits as new eligibility changes now affect many local families. Government officials say the new rules—designed to tighten access—may leave some without food support.  WOWT
  • Officials at the Department of Transportation plan to replace the nearly 100-year-old Dodge Street bridge over Saddle Creek and are asking the public for input on preserving its historic features. They will hold informational sessions in the coming years to design a new bridge that will lessen traffic delays+ respect Omaha's history.  WOWT
  • On Monday, Dominic Gillen called into Governor Pillen’s radio show to ask about voter-approved medical cannabis initiatives after saying the governor hung up on him. Gillen said his 23-year-old son, who has frequent seizures, is at the center of a decade-long fight for better care.  3 News Now
  • Leah Wambui Keinama from Nebraska Journalism Trust explained how everyday citizens were trained to cover local government board meetings (in an episode of Consider This) to help close gaps in public reporting.   • Senior Katie Ruge shot rounds of 68, 77 and 68 to win the Big O Classic by seven strokes and finish 3-under par today at Oak Hills Country Club. She plans to qualify for the NCAA regional in the spring — a goal she pursues with close family and coach support — while enjoying her senior year close to home.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Omaha Men’s Basketball will appear on CBS Sports Network as the Mavericks host Denver at Baxter Arena at 12 p.m. CT on Feb. 15th and then play at South Dakota at 6 p.m. CT on Feb. 25th.
