  • The Kreutz family in Clay County continues a 150-year farming tradition by harvesting corn and soybeans during a record-breaking season in one of the driest planting periods ever. Ethan Kreutz said his family works together—relatives including his five-year-old son help keep the legacy alive.  WOWT
  • James, an Omaha man, was chosen through a friend to walk in the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s Fashion Show— the largest down syndrome fundraiser in the world.  WOWT

  • Tommy's Express Car Wash has received a building permit for a new facility at 8425 West Center Road on a pad site in front of a Goodwill retail store & the national chain with six metro locations is planning an additional site near 84th & Center soon.  Grow Omaha

  • A plaque in the Old Market, donated by the local Daughters of the American Revolution, memorializes the World War II scrap metal drive that united Nebraskans—serving as a reminder of the city’s shared past.  Omaha World-Herald

  • UNO’s Office of Research and Creative Activity launched Share Your Success, a platform that lets faculty share their research, scholarship, and creative work to boost the university’s local and global profile—faculty can submit entries year‐round for review and promotion on various UNO channels.  University of Nebraska Omaha

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services announced new federal rules for SNAP benefits that will begin Oct.20th and limit eligibility mainly to U.S. citizens, Cuban and Haitian entrants, or those under free association agreements. Refugee advocates reported that delays in green card processing may leave 3,000—4,000 refugees without food assistance and noted new work requirements that now affect all able-bodied adults, including parents when their youngest child turns 14.  Nebraska Public Media
  • UNMC hosted a day-long active shooter drill Friday. The exercise tested staff readiness for emergency situations.  WOWT

  • Elkhorn 8-year-old Hudson Campbell completed treatment for a persistent ear infection in September 2023—unusual therapy helped him receive a second successful cochlear implant.  Omaha World-Herald

  • Located in Little Bohemia at 1258 S 13th Street, Masa Luna is a new late-night spot serving Mexican-inspired dishes and uniquely crafted cocktails for a fun date night experience.   • Friday night, Husker fans split their attention between the top-ranked volleyball match against Michigan State and a rare football game in Minnesota.
