- ➤ Federal cuts to SNAP will take effect in 2026 and are expected to worsen food insecurity in Omaha where one in eight families and one in five children already struggle to access healthy food. Local leaders are responding by directing $150,000 in Keno funds to food banks and preparing a new Food Bank for the Heartland facility on 84th and L Street—40 percent larger than its current site and set to open early next year. - ➤ Porky Butts BBQ reopened at 15475 Ruggles Street after closing in August due to flood damage, and the locally owned restaurant now serves customers Tuesday-Sunday 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Grow Omaha
- ➤ Midtown Auto Service & Exhaust on the corner of Leavenworth Street and Turner Boulevard brightens drivers' days with a marquee that has displayed jokes for more than 20 years. Owner Mike Leiderman changes the jokes every few weeks while co-owner Michael Clark helps keep the shop a friendly place for car repairs. KETV
- ➤ Culinary Dropout, a popular restaurant chain from Scottsdale, Arizona, will renovate the former Local Beer Patio & Kitchen space at Village Pointe Shopping Center for its first Nebraska location, according to a City of Omaha permit. - ➤ Omaha community members have urged NU Regent Elizabeth O’Connor to resign after she allegedly caused a crash on May 21 while driving under the influence on Blondo Street — injuring passengers including one with severe injuries — and State Sen. Kathleen Kauth said she will seek impeachment if O’Connor remains on the board. The Gateway

- ➤ The Maverick Videography Club of UNO entered a 48-hour film challenge in September and produced a five-minute satirical comedy titled Fulfillment for the Omaha Film Festival. - ➤ Nebraska State Poet Jewel Rodgers, the first Black and youngest state poet, performed spoken word at a commercial real estate summit in Omaha last August to bring a fresh style to her role. - ➤ Over the summer, the University of Nebraska at Omaha opted out of the House Settlement—aiming to keep its athletic program unchanged—and set its sights on reviewing the possible guidelines for future NIL deals. - ➤ Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen named the interim firemarshal permanently on Tuesday—his office said the decision will help maintain steady fire safety oversight in the state. Omaha World-Herald
- ➤ Today, Park Omaha held a ribbon cutting at its new 7-level parking garage—located at 4605 Farnam Street in the EDGE District at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. - ➤ Swish, a rescue dog from Louisiana (neglected and heartworm positive), now works as a certified therapy dog at Perceptions Therapy where co-owner Holly Israel uses him to help lower stress in nursing homes, schools, and memory care facilities.
