- ➤ The Hollows, an upscale cocktail and wine bar, opened last month at 5019 Underwood Avenue in Dundee + it features a working fireplace and a meeting room for 12 people while being run by Nick Joerz, Shawna Blair and Julius Nero with weekday hours from 3 p.m. to close and weekend hours from 12 noon to close. - ➤ UNO’s Office of Spirit, Tradition and Signature Events will host homecoming week from Oct.22 through Oct.30 with events like Durango’s birthday celebration, a royalty ceremony, Halloween activities and cowbell decorating + students can vote for their homecoming court on MavSync to show their school pride. - ➤ Students at UNO held a vigil on campus on September 17 — attended by over 125 community members and police — to honor late conservative activist Charlie Kirk and discuss the political impact of his death; some students supported his free speech legacy while others criticized the media focus and resulting political divide. - ➤ UNO graduate student Nate Ostdiek is running for the Nebraska Legislature to represent District 6 and has built his campaign by door knocking on 200 homes to ask what local residents need for fair spending and tax cuts. - ➤ Omaha Public Works announced that the I-480 northbound off ramp to Harney and Dodge Streets remains closed beyond its planned ten weeks due to unforeseen complexities with utility relocation near the bridge rebuild — it is set to reopen in 2 to 3 weeks. 28th Street is also closed and will reopen on November 6. - ➤ Governor Pillen has named Doug Hohbein as Nebraska State Fire Marshal effective immediately, following his role as Interim Fire Marshal since early March. He began his career in the agency in 1985—he holds a degree in fire protection technology from Southeast Community College. KFAB
