  • At the third annual Dozer Day at the Sarpy County Fairgrounds, kids and families had a hands-on look at heavy machinery and learned how it works—volunteer operators said the event brought big smiles and may inspire future careers in construction. Organizers noted that the experience helps show a clear path to work in the industry.  KETV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • YouTube TV is threatening to remove First Alert 6 from its lineup beginning Oct. 1 due to a dispute between NBC and Google—affecting NBC-owned channels and affiliates. First Alert 6 urges a swift agreement while remaining available with an antenna and streaming apps.  WOWT
  • Capitol District businesses in Omaha report falling sales and safety concerns as streetcar construction near 10th and Dodge continues—sales at some restaurants have dropped by 25% as workers and owners call for more support. Omaha Public Works says the project will finish on Oct. 17 while industry leaders ask the City for clearer communication and added assistance during the construction.  WOWT

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sept. 29, 1919 a mob stormed the Douglas County Courthouse, took Will Brown from jail amid assault charges, and lynched him—leaving buckshot marks in the marble and a marker that marks a dark day in Omaha’s past.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Nebraska students—Elise Renee Cherek from Millard North High School, Mason R. Miller from Elkhorn North High School, and Sarah Lange from Raymond Central Junior-Senior High School—were named 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholars by the U.S. Department of Education, with two students from Omaha included in the honor.  Omaha World-Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two Nebraska Liquor Control Commissioners, Kim Lowe and Bruce Bailey, resigned Monday after Governor Jim Pillen called them to request their resignations. Their departures left the commission without a quorum + applications for new appointments will be accepted until Oct. 17.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Governor Jim Pillen accepted the resignations of Bruce Bailey and Kim Lowe from the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission at his request effective immediately; applications for new appointments will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 17th (applicants must live in the 1st or 3rd congressional districts).  KFAB

  • Omaha contractors explain that fall droughts dry soil and cause stair-step cracking on home foundations when soil consolidates — new homeowner James Hartkorn called Thrasher Foundation Repair to address these shifts — and experts say solutions such as wall straps, wall anchors, or piers will secure the foundation.  WOWT

  • The Huskers will start their first Big Ten road game with an afternoon kickoff against Maryland—television details have been confirmed for the contest.  KETV
