- ➤ Bellevue food pantry will move into the former public library—hoping to open its doors by December 2026. WOWT
- ➤ Today, Omaha celebrates boxing legend Terence 'Bud' Crawford with a parade starting at 10 a.m. from 19th and Farnam that runs east on Farnam, turns at 13th Street, and ends at 10th and Harney, followed by a celebration at Heartland of America Park until about 1:30 p.m. The city has scheduled road closures for several downtown streets between 8:30 and 11 a.m.—free parking is available at select garages and meters until 1 p.m. KETV
- ➤ A former Bellevue public library will become the new home for the Bellevue Food Pantry—expanding from a 1,000-square-foot space to over 20,000 square feet—so it can serve nearly double its current 1,600 to 1,800 monthly visitors. Local partners helped fund the project that will open in December 2026 to offer a client-choice pantry for military families and residents. WOWT

- ➤ At Bluebarn Theatre, the play 'What the Constitution Means to Me' is on stage and will run through October 12—this production powerfully and wittily examines how the U.S. Constitution has shaped four generations of one family. Katie Becker Colón stars as Heidi Schreck and her portrayal challenges audiences to rethink the document's impact on daily life. KETV
- ➤ Today at the Holland Center for Performing Arts local veterans, first responders and service members share original music and personal stories as part of the Hero's Encore Stage One Celebration. The program will award each participant a new guitar after 12 weeks—nonprofit founder Tracy Ullom said—helping heroes find healing. WOWT

- ➤ At Meadows Elementary in Ralston, 5th grade students are taking part in Nebraska’s Kid Governor program to learn about leadership and civics — they held a primary election and have chosen a student nominee who will soon create a campaign video — the race for Nebraska’s first kid governor is now on. - ➤ UNO Chancellor Joanne Li said in the Nebraska Examiner that artificial intelligence is a new tool that can boost teaching, research, and learning in higher education—she said that using AI will help schools prepare students for future jobs—her remarks urge universities to integrate it carefully for smarter classrooms. - ➤ On Sept. 23, Sarpy County commissioners set the 2026 property tax request at the same levy rate to secure $84.4 million in taxes as rising property values have doubled tax bills over the past decade + unfunded state mandates add about $122 for a $300,000 home. Many of the 25 speakers at the hearing expressed frustration over late notifications and rising costs and urged residents to share their concerns with state legislators. Flatwater Free Press

- ➤ UNMC used hologram technology to let about 150 health care providers learn together in real time at a statewide stroke conference. The conference connected participants from Omaha — Norfolk — Kearney — and Scottsbluff to shrink the digital divide across Nebraska. KETV

- ➤ The former Civic Auditorium site began its next phase of construction on September 26 as the White Lotus Group launched its redevelopment project The Nest — designed as a hub for students next to Creighton University.
