CULTURE NEWS

  • Omaha Comedy Fest is a four-day event from Sept. 25-28 at The Backline in Little Bohemia that will feature over 50 performers—mixing local and national talent. Founder Dylan Rohde and Executive Director Brittany Mascio said the festival will also include shows and comedy workshops to support new local comedians.  KETV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school bands from Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota gathered at Millard West High School for the 16th annual Wildcat Classic, where the competition began at 9:30 a.m. and awards were presented at 10:15 p.m. at Millard South High School—showcasing their teamwork and musical skill.  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three months after the Glenn Valley Foods immigration raid, some detainees in Omaha have been released or removed while others remain in ICE custody, prompting calls for fair treatment. State Sen. Juarez + local lawyers are pressing for better legal services and improved conditions as plans move forward to convert a state prison in McCook into a detention center.  Nebraska Examiner
  • Omaha state Sen. Margo Juarez will host a town hall on Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Willa Cather Branch of the Omaha Public Library (1905 S. 44th St.) to gather public input on passenger rail options as part of a study she supports in the Legislature.  Omaha World-Herald
  • DEA's Omaha Field Division hosted its 4th annual Family Summit on Friday to examine how fentanyl and dangerous drugs have hurt tribal communities. Special Agent in Charge Dustin Gillespie stressed immediate action—warning that social media makes it easier to access drugs and noting the deep personal impact on tribal families.  WOWT

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a tough loss to Michigan, Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola said his team will bounce back and come together to do something bold—he noted many believe the defeat might break the team. Raiola added that the upcoming bye week will give them extra time to review their play and prepare for the next game.  KETV
  • Top-ranked Nebraska closed its non-conference schedule with a sweep over Arizona and then lost 30-27 to No. 21 Michigan in their Big Ten opener last night—adding challenges to their start of the season. The Huskers now plan to adjust their strategy for upcoming conference games.  WOWT
  • The Nebraska football team arrived at Memorial Stadium before today and will face Michigan on Saturday — a Legacy Walk was held before the game to honor team history.  WOWT
