- ➤ Car enthusiasts attended the Show and Shine Car Show in West Omaha on Saturday to raise funds that will help replace stolen service flags and support veteran groups. The event honored veterans, first responders and 911 victims and all proceeds went to the Nebraska Patriot Guard Riders—who will use the funds to buy new flags and aid the Dusty Boots Foundation. - ➤ Supermercado Nuestra Familia will open a new store in a former Walgreens building at 2323 L Street in South Omaha, based on a City of Omaha building permit. The store will be 15,000 sq ft—much smaller than its regular 40,000 sq ft locations. Grow Omaha

- ➤ Omaha native playwright Beaufield Berry posted an online call for actors to join her musical about Black cowgirls, and two local actors auditioned as part of a tight-knit Black theater community that supports its own amid federal arts funding cuts (and rising pressure on diversity initiatives). - ➤ Officials said Nebraska may need to spend extra funds if it takes over management of the scenic Niobrara River from the National Park Service, as Sen. Tanya Storer has proposed an interim study at 1 p.m. on Friday at the State Capitol to review costs. Some leaders doubt that Nebraska has the expertise to run the program—an issue the study will address. Nebraska Examiner

- ➤ Funding for Nebraska’s everyday drug takeback program was restored last week after stakeholders engaged with policymakers—Gov. Pillen confirmed the contract extends through June to support safe disposal. The move preserves $290,000 in state funds and a matching $400,000 from the Nebraska Environmental Trust, ensuring pharmacies can handle unused medications safely. KETV
