- ➤ The Greater Omaha Chamber launched a $1 million business resiliency fund for small Midtown businesses that have seen sales drop from streetcar construction. The fund will be distributed to property owners along Farnam Street—helping ease the disruption from over $100 million in utility work. Omaha World-Herald

- ➤ UNL Chancellor Rodney Bennett announced Friday he submitted a proposal to reduce the university’s budget by $27.5 million for Fiscal Year 2026—$21 million will close a structural gap and $6.5 million will be cut further. The Academic Planning Committee will gather campus feedback before a final plan is presented to the Board of Regents in December. WOWT

- ➤ After Nebraska prisons were overcrowded in 1997, a 960-bed facility was built in Tecumseh in 2001 to ease the strain on state prisons housing dangerous inmates. A site committee picked Tecumseh for its available workforce and economic need—following job losses after the Campbell Soup Co. closed—with broad local support despite political debate. - ➤ Lawmakers and community members testified in an overflow hearing on Sept 12th about the state’s plan to convert the McCook facility into an ICE detention hub; state officials said the facility will house federal detainees in October & add up to 65 state jobs while local business owners report a drop in customers and plan to organize support for affected residents. - ➤ Yesterday, Mayor John Ewing and Councilman Pete Festersen visited The Crossroads site where developers outlined a revised timeline for the 15-year project expected to bring $1 billion in growth to Omaha. - ➤ Omaha’s men's and women's tennis teams are heading to Sioux Falls for fall play at the Augie Invite hosted by Augustana, with the women’s squad led by coach Adam Summitt returning five players and adding three freshmen and one transfer, while the men’s team, coached by Hunter Clark, returns five players and welcomes two freshmen and three transfers.
