ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Today, the Omaha Fire Department responded to a house fire near 33rd and G streets in South Omaha just after midnight and reported no injuries.  WOWT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Peregrine Hotel at 18th & Douglas Street downtown is set to launch two new dining options in late October. The Perch Rooftop will operate year round atop the hotel while the Gilded Feather will serve as a full-service restaurant.  Grow Omaha

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNL saw a small drop in fall enrollment to 23,954 students as international and graduate numbers fell—while more in-state and first-time freshmen joined, UNMC reported a 2% rise and marked its 25th straight year of growth. Both universities explained that shifts in student demographics played a key role in the enrollment changes.  Omaha World-Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction on the Omaha streetcar project triggered new closures when Farnam at 10th Street and 10th Street southbound closed for one month Monday morning, while 10th Street northbound will shut on September 15 for the project's remainder. Blackstone saw 38th Avenue closed for one week of utility work and parking on 38th Street halted — the utility relocation phase continues through 2027 with streetcar service planned for 2028.  KETV
  • Work begins today to remediate a sinkhole on the west side of 16th Street between Farnam and Harney—this sinkhole opened last January when a garbage truck fell into an underground void. The project will last through November and includes shoring up an exposed building foundation, repairing a sewer, and fixing a duct line for Omaha Public Power District.  Grow Omaha

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A dozen Omaha tenants say Wise Owl Properties sent a letter warning their water and gas will be shut off due to unpaid Metropolitan Utilities District bills even though they pay a flat $75 fee for utilities per their lease—causing confusion over rotating property managers and delayed bill updates.  3 News Now
  • Today, heavy equipment arrived at the Crossroads redevelopment site northwest of 72nd and Dodge Street as Woodbury Corporation and WRK Real Estate begin developing the $850 million project. The first phase will build Gamescape by Cinemark—a unique entertainment center—and Block B with an 800-stall parking garage and 200 multifamily units with retail, expected to complete in about two years.  Grow Omaha

  • Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule said Houston Christian will bring an excellent defense to Lincoln (they rank in the top five in key stats) and he expects their play to test his team (the game is set for the near future).  KETV
  • Released Monday, the new AVCA poll kept Nebraska volleyball at No.1 as the Huskers earned all 61 top votes with a record of six wins and no losses—Creighton fell to No.18 from last week’s ranking. Nebraska will host Utah and Grand Canyon and the Jays will play Louisville, Rice and Northern Iowa this week.  KETV
