COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students and local community members joined a splash-kickball event at Elmwood Park on Sept. 6 organized by Blue Bench Crew, where teams paid a five-dollar fee and the winning team, Water Nuggets, received a cash prize. Founders Carnell Aflagah and Fredy Kadjo planned the event to unite UNO students and residents—more creative events like a fashion show are coming soon.  The Gateway

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An accident caused a house fire near 21st and Arbor streets in South Omaha Saturday night, and the Omaha Fire Department responded just before 10:45 p.m. to quickly extinguish the blaze with no injuries, as a work light placed too close to combustibles triggered the fire & damages are estimated at $18,500 while no one was home.  WOWT

CRIME NEWS

  • Two people were arrested in Omaha for a fatal stabbing that happened Thursday night — authorities identified the victim.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Up to 30 MCC students will compete this fall to design spaceflight experiments for the International Space Station—registration is open to all MCC students, including high schoolers in dual enrollment programs.  Grow Omaha

HEALTH NEWS

  • Omaha neighbors gathered at Werner Park in Papillion for the 10th annual Rally for Life to honor organ donors and raise awareness for life-saving transplants. Participants walked a 1-mile route or ran a 5K run—demonstrating long-standing support for donor heroes.  WOWT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity is planning to build 27 new homes on vacant lots near 26th & Corby in north Omaha, adjacent to the fleet maintenance facility. The for-sale units range from 2 to 4 bedrooms with an average value of $230,000, and construction will begin this October and finish by August 2026 after a $1.7 million TIF is applied to support the $7 million project.  Grow Omaha

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, the No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team swept California 3-0 at Bob Devaney Sports Center—recording a .419 hitting percentage, 49 kills, and a .088 from Cal. The Huskers will host Utah on Friday and Grand Canyon on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT.  WOWT
  • A Husker football player scored his first career touchdown with three catches in a Saturday night win over Akron. After the game, the La Vista tight end proposed on the Memorial Stadium turf to his NU Dance Team girlfriend, Kailyn.  KFAB
  • Local bars in Omaha are hosting Husker football fans for their first home game as bar managers use Instagram — a key tool — to build a lively game-day atmosphere. Fans appreciate the warm setting that makes them feel as if they are at the stadium.  WOWT
