BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bergman Incentives will hold a ribbon cutting for its new 44,000 sq. ft. headquarters — located at 9700 J Street — on September 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.; the company, which provides branded merchandise, will also use the space for fulfillment and distribution functions.  Grow Omaha

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • HOPE Esperanza has been helping ICE detainees at the Lincoln County Detention Center since an ICE raid at Glenn Valley Foods in Omaha three months ago — it supports more than 80 workers with weekly legal aid meetings. The group will continue assisting detainees as they navigate their court processes.  WOWT
  • The Omaha City Council will meet at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9 to review agenda items including a new job for a Tarp and Skeet Coordinator, revised retirement rules for public safety workers, a $1.465 million grant for a drone program, and plans for bridge repairs, a CHI Health Center bond, and affordable housing projects — a hearing on unauthorized encampments is set for September 23.  WOWT
  • An Omaha group called Pissed Off Grandmas attended U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts’ forum at the Nebraska State Fair last week and were escorted out after voicing concerns over the One Big Beautiful Bill. The grandmas said they remain fired up to protest and demand a chance to speak with federal officials—insisting on a rightful dialogue.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Nebraska lawmakers passed a law on September 5 that established a task force to fight veteran suicides— the group will hold its first meeting soon to plan new support initiatives.  WOWT

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Nebraska mother is calling on lawmakers to ban kratom after her son died from kratom toxicity from a very low dose. Lawmakers will consider new rules for clear product labels—while some experts say more support for substance use treatment is needed.  KETV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Local developer Scott Semrad will build a three-story apartment building at 3206 Leavenworth Street after the Omaha Planning Department approved rezoning this week for the three-and-a-half-acre site currently used as a car lot. The department also approved his application for a 15,726 sq. ft. lot in the Park Avenue neighborhood north of 29th and Jackson Street for a sixteen-unit project — TOD-2-MUR zoning.  Grow Omaha

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska won its home opener against Wright St. yesterday and raised its season record to 5-0 by winning in straight sets—video highlights included team interviews. This win shows the team is off to a strong start this season.  WOWT
