CRIME NEWS

  • Omaha police investigated a homicide after a man was cut at the Any Time Laundry parking lot off 46th and Cuming streets around 9:40 p.m. on Thursday—paramedics took the 34-year-old victim to a hospital where he later died and no suspects have been announced yet.  KETV
  • Omaha police said a man was wounded in a shooting at 42nd and Bedford late Thursday on Sept. 5 and a local vet clinic is investigating a break-in. The Nebraska Supreme Court revived a lawsuit over a missing boy while a county health center administrator was disciplined and University of Nebraska faces $40M in budget cuts — a controversial 'Good Time' law decision in Saunders County continues to upset a victim’s family.  WOWT

  • Nebraska filed a U.S. Supreme Court lawsuit against Colorado for not delivering the required 120 cfs of water to the Western Irrigation Canal under the 1923 South Platte River Compact—officials say the case will review nearly 100 years of water rights records and explore Colorado’s irrigation practices that led to major water shortfalls.  Omaha World-Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nebraska firefighters and community advocates testified in Lincoln on Friday to push for improved cancer benefits — noting the current policy only supports benefits after a fatal diagnosis — and they stressed firefighters face greater risks and higher death rates from cancer than the general public.  KETV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Burdock + Bitters, located inside the Marriott Hotel at 222 N 10th Street in the Capitol District, serves a varied menu of dishes and drinks. The restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight with the kitchen until 11 p.m. and will feature a special menu by Chef Michael Angelo during Restaurant Week from Sept. 12 to 21.  KETV

  • Burke High School in Omaha unveiled its new stadium Friday with a ribbon-cutting and a first home game where the Bulldogs played Creighton Prep on fresh turf. The $8 million project took 10 years of planning and was funded by school funds, alumni donors and the OPS Foundation.  KETV
  • Omaha cross country finished seventh at Mahoney State Park on Friday — freshman Briley Early led the team with a time of 18:07.88 and two runners set personal records — and the team will now prepare for the Woody Greeno Invitational on September 20.  University of Nebraska Omaha
