  • Omaha nonprofit Keeps Kids Alive, Drive 25 urges drivers to slow down after nearly 50 individuals were clocked at 100 mph in a 10-day span and a fatal accident occurred involving a Millard West student—traffic deaths spiked 34% last year. With higher speeding fines starting tomorrow, the group says actions like buckling up and stopping distractions can help save lives.  WOWT
  • Omaha Restaurant Week returns from September 12 to 21, inviting locals to sample three-course menus at fixed prices in 55 restaurants including 15 newcomers. Five percent of menu sales will support Food Bank for the Heartland—helping neighbors in need.  Grow Omaha

  • One person was critically hurt after a car rolled onto its roof near Midtown Crossing at 10:30 p.m. Monday night at 30th and Dodge—Omaha police are investigating the cause.  KETV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wichita-based Equity Bank announced Tuesday it will acquire all seven Nebraska locations of Omaha-based Frontier Bank through a merger agreement with Frontier Holdings, LLC—pending regulatory approval, the merger is expected to close in fourth quarter.  Omaha World-Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • A hearing is scheduled on October 20 to decide if Nikko Jenkins—who killed four in 2013 and once pleaded for execution before changing his mind—will be further evaluated to see if his worsening mental state exempts him from the death penalty while Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine argues he understood his actions.  WOWT

  • Deborah Neary, a longtime member representing District 8 on the Nebraska State Board of Education, announced on Tuesday she will not seek reelection for a third term in 2026—she endorsed Sherrye Hutcherson to take her place.  Omaha World-Herald
