  • Mark Petit of Petit's Pastries kept the Labor Day donut tradition alive on Monday by setting up a grab-and-go stand near 16th and Cass Streets during a rainy parade—he used a tent to keep himself and his donuts dry. Customers still lined up for a quick breakfast as Omaha marked its 141st Labor Day celebration.  WOWT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • CLAAS Group broke ground last Friday on a new 44,800 sq ft research and development center at its Sarpy County property near the intersection of 132nd and Giles Road—this facility will be used to test LEXION combines for North American farmers and is scheduled for completion in fall 2026.  Grow Omaha
  • QAT Global will move its downtown office from the twin towers of Central Park Plaza to the Capitol District where it will remodel space at 1100 Capitol Avenue—home to tenants such as Deloitte and Private Wealth Asset Management. The move will support its growth as a locally grown IT company with international offices.  Grow Omaha

CRIME NEWS

  • Nicky Budlong, the caregiver at a house near 26th and Arbor Streets, was charged with manslaughter after survivors reported she withheld Social Security and SNAP funds—leading to harsh conditions and the starvation of 66-year-old Cathy Snider who was denied enough food, utilities and proper care.  Omaha World-Herald

  • AfroFest is held downtown in Heartland of America Park where hundreds of neighbors celebrate African culture with music and food—volunteer Cammy Watkins said the event helps young people see their heritage. Afro-Omaha also plans future events like Afro Fashion Week and Film Week to build community identity.  3 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • A big, pink mobile coach is saving lives in Omaha by offering free or low-cost mammograms to women with little or no insurance as it partners with community donors; in nearly eight years the coach has delivered over 16,000 screenings that detected more than 62 cancers — showing how early detection is made possible by community support.  KETV

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon in Nashville, the No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team rallied from two sets down to beat No. 7 Kentucky 3-2 in a reverse sweep that improved its record to 4-0. Harper Murray led with a career-high 23 kills as the Huskers will face Wright State Friday at 7 p.m. and California Sunday at 1 p.m.—propelling their season forward.  KETV
  • Creighton volleyball earned its first win under coach Brian Rosen by rallying in a five-set match against No. 14 Kansas at the Opening Spike Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Bluejays overcame a fifth-set deficit—scoring a 9-0 run to secure the victory—and will return to action next weekend at the Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles.  KETV
  • Nebraska volleyball received all 61 first-place votes in the AVCA poll on Monday, making them the unanimous No. 1 team and remaining unbeaten at 4 to 0 after beating Kentucky on Sunday.
