  • On Saturday, the Level Up career fair brought local residents job, housing, and networking opportunities while dance teams and music boosted the upbeat atmosphere. Organizer Racquel Henderson said the event grew over four years and helped create more than 300 resource connections—showing a strong community effort towards financial stability.  WOWT
  • Omaha residents will have a chance to explore job opportunities and career workshops at the upcoming resource fair designed to help them build the future they want — local organizers will announce full event details soon. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Omaha police, fire, and ABLE-1 responded after a man attempted to swim across the Missouri River Saturday night — Council Bluffs police later rescued him and brought him safely to shore.  KETV

CRIME NEWS

  • An Omaha teenager, Korion Rockwell, pleaded no contest to manslaughter after fatally shooting his mother's abusive boyfriend and was placed on indefinite probation last week — the juvenile court noted his actions occurred amid a history of domestic violence.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Omaha police responded at 1:23 a.m. to Levi Carter Park after a large disturbance that led to three people being injured—one 20-year-old woman with life-threatening wounds and two girls with stab injuries, one taken to a hospital and the other treated on scene.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Omaha police said a man with blond hair—wearing a red beanie, surgical mask, black jacket and blue jeans—robbed a Walmart on 50th and L Street on Friday night by threatening to shoot an employee, and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.  Omaha World-Herald

  • Even though it is rainy, AfroFest brings African music, dance, food, and arts to Downtown Omaha today from 2 to 10 p.m. at Heartland of America Park—organizer Joubel Teko said the light rain means peace.  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council member Brinker Harding has proposed a new ordinance to fine and jail people camping on public property—he says it will help with public safety and health. Homeless outreach experts and city officials argue that current strategies are working, as early counts show a drop in unsheltered homelessness and the mayor has set up a task force to explore more solutions while the hearing has been moved to Sept. 30.  Omaha World-Herald

  • Creighton's men's soccer team will host Tulsa for their home opener, and Johnny Torres said the stadium and fans are the best in the country—raising hopes for a strong start this season. The game is eagerly awaited by local supporters.  WOWT
