ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Omaha police responded to a crash at 85th Street and West Dodge Road that left two people in hospital.  WOWT
  • Two people were critically injured in an Omaha crash near Cass Street and West Dodge Road at 3:20 a.m. on Wednesday and authorities are investigating its cause.  KETV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy recovered a stolen large construction trailer from a parking lot near 156th and Maple Streets today, helping a small business resume work and prompting Sheriff Hanson to provide a GPS tracker to secure equipment—efforts aimed at curbing future theft.  WOWT
  • An Omaha man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison—after being convicted of distribution and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance similar to fentanyl—in a federal case.  Omaha World-Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Nebraska State Fair has been updated with a vendor parking lot that is repaved with concrete and modern storm sewers—improving drainage and keeping the area cooler. The fair will open tomorrow at 10 a.m. with new shows including the Sea Lion Splash and the Canine Stars Stunt Dog Show, and themed attractions running through Labor Day.  Omaha World-Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Millard North High School will rename a street on 144th Street near its northeast entrance to honor former student and Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch. A renaming ceremony is scheduled for August 27 and the hall of fame ceremony will follow at 5:30 p.m.—officials confirmed.  KETV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Housing Growth Partners moved four new townhomes into North Omaha yesterday to address a growing need for affordable, quality housing—prices range from $207,000 to $230,000, and real estate agent Ryan Ellis said interest is high with plans to build more homes soon.  KETV
