  • The Omaha Fire Department responded to a building fire just after 4 a.m. Friday at a vacant structure near 19th and Burdette streets in North Omaha—fire crews worked quickly to contain the blaze while investigators looked into its cause.  WOWT

  • UNO's Gina Ligon received the 2025 Innovation, Development and Engagement Award at the President's Excellence Awards for her work on national security research — the Goodrich Scholarship Program earned the Innovations in Student Success Award for its role in helping students.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • The sixth affordable home built by Metropolitan Community College students was moved from the Fort Omaha campus to the Miller Park neighborhood at 2452 Camden Avenue on August 14 — 170 students built the Craftsman-style bungalow with Holy Name Housing Corporation as a hands-on project for affordable housing. It is the second consecutive year of these projects that offer both practical learning and community benefit.  Grow Omaha

  • On Friday, Omaha experienced a heat advisory with a chance for brief morning showers and thunderstorms while temperatures felt near 105°. Meteorologist Sean Everson reported that by Saturday, temperatures could reach a heat index of 110 — and severe heat might continue into Sunday.  KETV
