  • Local nonprofits helped the final three residents leave City View Friday and secure new homes and temporary hotels. The North Omaha Community Partnership moved furniture amid hardships — while Mayor John Ewing unveiled plans to address the city's affordable housing challenges.  WOWT
  • Omaha’s Santa Lucia Festival, which is 101 years old, kicked off Friday at 10th and William Streets and will run through Sunday — organizers plan a bocce ball tournament, live music for kids, and serve traditional treats to honor the city’s Italian heritage.  WOWT

  • Family and friends confirmed the identity of the girls killed in a biofuels plant incident — GoFundMe accounts have been set up for each girl's family to help with expenses.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor John Ewing announced a $40 million bond plan on Aug. 1 to fund affordable housing along the streetcar corridor by using bonds purchased by an anonymous donor—repayment will come from tax-increment funds over 15 years. City officials say that if the City Council approves the plan next month, construction on both affordable and workforce housing may begin in 2026.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Mayor John Ewing announced a plan that will use $40 million in bonds to build affordable housing in the urban core starting as early as 2026. The proposal partners with Front Porch Investments — using funds from the Urban Core Housing and Mobility Redevelopment Plan and TIF revenue for the streetcar project.  WOWT
