ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Tuesday explosion at Horizon Biofuels in Fremont left three people missing; emergency crews later recovered the body of 32-year-old Dylan D. Danielson of Columbus and the bodies of two girls—officials will conduct an autopsy and investigation—while working to clear debris and suppress the fire.  WOWT
  • One person was injured in a crash on Interstate 680 at West Dodge Road just after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday—police reported that the southbound vehicle hit an obstacle and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  WOWT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • An Omaha homeowner, Mike Olsen, faces a dangerous situation after his contractor, Durwood’s Contracting, missed a written deadline six weeks ago to install a 16x6 porch deck near 108th and Fort Streets, leaving a 3-foot drop off at his door. Olsen filed a police report and demanded a $2,400 deposit refund when the contractor offered repayment only if a negative review was removed — the Better Business Bureau shows three complaints and an F rating for the company.  WOWT

  • A 15-year-old, Logan Pedrosa, was denied bond during his Wednesday court appearance after he was charged as an adult with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Sirr Bonner near 120th & Miami, while 21-year-old Mercy Mendoza-Gutierrez faces charges as an accessory.  KETV

  • At Native Omaha Days, the Union for Contemporary Art presents Northside Carnation, a play honoring Mildred Brown that recalls North Omaha events from 1969. The performance runs today at the Shirley Tyree Theatre with shows at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. + tickets cost $50.  WOWT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A University of Nebraska Omaha report finds that alumni boosted Omaha’s economy by about $2.4B last year by earning higher incomes that drove local spending—nearly 80,000 graduates remain in the metro area and their spending supported over 12,000 jobs.  Nebraska Examiner
  • A report by the UNO Alumni Association showed that over 79,000 alumni generated a $2.4 billion impact in 2024 by supporting more than 12,000 jobs + contributing over $705 million in tax revenue.
