  • Omaha and Council Bluffs honor a pioneer family from 1855 with parks donated by members of the Dodge family. Council Bluffs’ park began with a 1912 gift honoring Nathan P. Dodge Sr. and Omaha’s park expanded after a 1930 donation by N.P. Dodge Jr. to commemorate their early contributions.  Omaha World-Herald

  • A serious crash occurred near 60th and Ames Avenue early Sunday morning — one person was taken to Nebraska Medicine after two vehicles collided around 2 a.m., and authorities are investigating the cause.  KETV

  • Steelhouse Omaha is converting its southwest concrete patio into an outdoor venue using a building permit for a $92,000 project. The plans add three decks—two shipping containers, outdoor seating, turf and landscaping—to create a refreshed performance space.  Grow Omaha

  • Omaha police investigated a shooting overnight near 120th and Miami Street Saturday that left one person in serious condition and who was privately transported to Methodist Hospital—Lt. Nava said.  KETV

  • Maha, Omaha’s indie music festival, will return on Aug. 2 at Heartland of America Park—its founders have rejoined and new sponsors have revived the event, with the Pixies set to headline the one-day show.  Nebraska Public Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Nebraska will cut $20 million more from its budget this year to fix a shortfall caused by lower state funding, tuition discount rules, and less money for research. President Jeff Gold said the cuts will change spending in academics, jobs, and research areas— and the school will review plans to save more money.  Omaha World-Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Retirees from Omaha Public Schools received lower cost-of-living adjustments than expected after the state took over the retirement system last fall, with many noticing the change on their February checks. They estimate about $250,000 in adjustments was missed — prompting calls for a legislative fix to restore their full benefits.  Omaha World-Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • School is nearly in session and Omaha optometrists say parents should schedule eye exams for children as young as 4 to catch vision problems that could affect school behavior and grades. They advise earlier exams for kids with a family history of lazy eye or nearsightedness—especially since vision can change quickly.  KETV
