- ➤ Deputies searching a cornfield near Schnkeeloth Road on Tuesday at 11:10 a.m. found remains in a wooded creek near where a 40-year-old man was last seen on July 7 and reported missing on July 10 — friends had earlier uncovered personal items like pants and a wallet on July 19 — and the identity of the deceased remains unconfirmed with an autopsy scheduled this week. - ➤ Mayor John Ewing Jr. handed his budget for the coming year to the Omaha City Council yesterday during a regular meeting to set plans for the city's financial future. WOWT
- ➤ The Omaha City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved renaming Lothrop Street in North Omaha to John W. Ewing Jr. Street in honor of the city’s first Black mayor who grew up there. A renaming ceremony will be held July 31 at 1 p.m. (during Native Omaha Days) and the council also approved renaming two nearby streets (for Bettie McDonald and Vera Johnson) to further recognize local heritage. - ➤ Neighbors near Flanagan Lake are worried that Omaha’s Boulevard Master Plan will force trees on HWS Cleveland Boulevard—which could block the lakeside views they paid for and pose wind safety risks. The plan, based on a 2017 agreement, has led residents to ask the city to reconsider the tree guidelines since their street is not a true boulevard. 3 News Now
