COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families of the Stolen hosted the 11th annual Day of Laughter Saturday at Assembly of Saints in Omaha, offering free school supplies, live entertainment, and water activities while handing out over 450 backpacks to children. Founder Buffy Bush started the event to support families affected by violence, and it has grown from giving 100 backpacks in its first year — showing a strong community effort to break the cycle of violence.  KETV
  • On July 18, Plymouth honored native Erwin 'Bud' Schopp after 82 years when DNA testing identified his remains and a full military funeral was held at the community center & Woodlawn Cemetery. Family, veterans & local residents gathered to salute his service and finally bring him home.  Omaha World-Herald

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash in south Omaha near 24th and Vinton occurred a little before 11 a.m. Saturday when a westbound 2024 Toyota Prius allegedly ran a red light and hit a 2009 Chevy Impala—resulting in serious injuries for the two passengers in the Impala who were taken to the hospital and minor injuries for the Prius driver, with charges pending.  KETV

  • The Scene, an event venue, will open this fall in the former Urban Outfitters space at 745 North 14th Street in the Builder’s District — the 2-story, 8,500 sq. ft. space sits between Rally Coffee and Slowdown live music venue and has been vacant since Urban Outfitters moved out five years ago.  Grow Omaha

  • Omaha Fire Department rescued a dehydrated worker stranded 80 feet on a grain bin by using its new drone program to deliver water and a sports drink—community grant funds from King of Kings Church helped buy the Skydio X-10 and train 22 pilots for four drones to support safer rescues.  3 News Now
  • State officials announced that Nebraska will cut Medicaid rates for autism care services that are currently the nation's highest—parent groups have voiced strong criticism—and the changes may affect the care children receive.  Omaha World-Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Omaha Junior Roller Derby is recruiting skaters ages 8 to 17 to learn roller derby at Schenzel Community Center in north Omaha. The inclusive sports league teaches kids to skate, build confidence, and work as a team during practices on Wednesdays and Saturdays — it welcomes all skill levels.  KETV
  • Creighton women's basketball has released its 2025-26 nonconference schedule—its opener is a home game against Missouri Western on Oct. 21 and a neutral-site contest against North Dakota State on Oct. 25 in Sioux Falls. The season begins on Nov. 3 with South Dakota State at home—additional games include matchups with Drake, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, a Thanksgiving tournament in Las Vegas, Tulsa, Kansas State and UNO on Dec. 17 in Omaha.  KETV
