- ➤ Volunteers from Omaha Rapid Response are packing a trailer with supplies to help people affected by the Texas floods that left over 130 dead and more than 100 missing. The team of between 12 and 15 people will head out this weekend to check for water damage—structural damage and mold—and assist those without a support system. 3 News Now

- ➤ Elkhorn residents now have a new dessert spot as Stella’s Ice Cream opens at 4002 North 203rd Street near Jimmy John’s and Little Caesars. The Idaho-based chain offers ice cream, baked goods, floats and gluten- and dairy-free options and will hold its grand opening event on July 19. Grow Omaha
- ➤ Construction on the Omaha streetcar has cut traffic for midtown businesses on Farnam Street — causing sales to drop by 40 to 45% at spots such as the Pickleman’s and a nearby Indian restaurant. City officials say steps are in place to ease the current impact while the project aims to boost the area when it is finished in 2028. Omaha World-Herald

- ➤ The Maha Festival returns on Aug. 2 at the newly reimagined Heartland of America Park on Omaha's RiverFront to celebrate music, community and culture. Board chair TJ Twit said the one-day event will feature headliners such as the Pixies with Little Brazil opening at 2 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m. — general admission tickets cost $79 and sponsors will host local nonprofit activations. - ➤ Native Omaha Days will occur from July 28 to Aug. 4 as the city’s largest celebration of Black pride that brings together 17,000 visitors from out of state—highlighting historic traditions and community unity. The weeklong event will include a parade starting at 10 a.m. on Aug. 2 along 30th Street from Lake to Sprague—led by 105-year-old grand marshal Ruth Patrick Thomas—and aims to boost local progress. - ➤ Nebraska state leaders filed a lawsuit against Colorado on July 16 asking the U.S. Supreme Court to enforce Nebraska’s century-old water rights to the South Platte River and support plans for the Perkins County Canal—an effort to secure water for farms and all users. Gov. Pillen and Attorney General Hilgers said Colorado is taking more water than allowed under a 1926 compact and vowed to fight to protect the state’s supply. Nebraska Examiner
- ➤ Gov. Pillen appointed Papillion man David Jones as Sarpy County Election Commissioner after Emily Ethington resigned; Jones served in the U.S. Air Force + worked for Gallup + he will begin his role on July 18. KETV
