  • Oreo is a sweet dog at the Nebraska Humane Society who loves chasing toys & treats and has been at the shelter since April; she does well in the playgroup but must meet other dogs before she is adopted. The shelter hopes she soon finds a forever home so she can enjoy the summer.  KETV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • FedEx will close its Omaha facility in September as part of its multi-year consolidation plan—affecting over 100 employees and prompting operational changes.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Little Caesars will open its 15th local store at Mid-K Plaza on the southeast corner of 60th & Ames Avenue after renovations begin at 5921 Ames Street, Unit A.  Grow Omaha
  • Dundee is preparing for two new businesses—one a farmer's co-op offering fresh produce next to Pitch Pizza and the other a bar with a bookstore housed in a historic home on Underwood Avenue—although no opening dates have been set.   • Mutual of Omaha’s future headquarters is rising fast along Farnam Street—its steel and glass structure grows taller each day as a yellow crane completes two more jumps to finish the build. The skyscraper will open in 2026.  3 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Concertgoers arrived early on Friday, June 27th at Memorial Park for the free concert that featured a Central High School student's National Anthem, sets by Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs and Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band, and a fireworks display at 10 p.m. Attendees described the crowd as lively — like a Husker football game — and noted many faced delays leaving the park after the show.  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Jim Pillen signed a law on June 4 that requires Nebraska businesses and nonprofits to confirm in their biannual reports that they do not work for designated foreign terrorist groups or adversary nations like China or Iran—any violation may incur civil penalties up to $50,000. The law will take effect in September and also mandates that those involved in political lobbying register as foreign agents.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Omaha officials announced that I-480 will have two overnight lane closures for Harney Street Bridge decking—the first from Sunday, June 29 through Wednesday, July 2 and the second from Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11—with traffic reduced to one lane between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.  KFAB
