COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday, Adams Park held a grand opening for its new trail system that connects North Omaha neighborhoods and features an all-wheels playground, pump track, flow trail, and scenic routes—years in the making with community feedback. The system gives families safer access to local parks and sets up a similar trail to open soon in South Omaha’s Mandan Park.  WOWT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Nebraska Medicine closed its Old Market Health Center for the rest of this week after an SUV crashed through a wall Monday afternoon—three people were injured, including two employees, and none of the injuries were serious.  WOWT

CRIME NEWS

  • Omaha police are investigating a shooting Sunday night in North Omaha — a 16-year-old girl was injured with a gunshot wound and taken to a hospital.  Omaha World-Herald
  • A shooting near downtown Omaha at 16th and Cuming left one person in critical condition around 10 p.m. Sunday night—police have not named any suspects or made any arrests.  KETV
  • Omaha police arrested two 18-year-old men and one 16-year-old boy on Monday in connection with a homicide investigation—officers said they responded on June 8 to a shooting on North 62nd Street that left 19-year-old Ashtin Fletch dead and a 20-year-old man with a non-life-threatening injury.  WOWT

  • UNO education student Arlene Garcia built trust with fourth grade students by greeting each child by name during her practicum at a Millard school. Her work shows that being herself helps her connect with students and guides her as a teacher.  University of Nebraska Omaha

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, Nebraskans gathered at an Omaha town hall to urge Congress to review potential health care cuts in a federal budget reconciliation bill. Speakers warned that the proposal could leave nearly 55,000 residents without coverage — and cause a drop of about $4 billion in federal funding.  Nebraska Examiner
