CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Four protestors now face federal criminal charges after they blocked a Marshal SUV and damaged property during the June 10 raid at an Omaha meat processing plant — one protestor is a plant worker whose mother was detained in the raid. Omaha World-Herald
- ➤ Authorities reported one person died and another is held for questioning after an incident near Northwest Omaha—an autopsy showed the victim died of a heart attack. WOWT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ North Omaha community leader Preston Love, Jr. organizes his eighth Black Votes Matter Black History Tour, where 33 students will travel on a free bus on June 22 to visit historic Black sites in the southern states + learn more about events like Black Wall Street and Juneteenth. - ➤ CoworkingCafe named Omaha the 3rd best mid-sized metro for STEM professionals in 2025—based on job growth, wage gains, and a thriving science sector. - ➤ NU Regents approved a 5% tuition hike for the four campuses this fall to address a $1.1 billion budget gap caused by inflation, increased employee costs, and lower-than-requested state aid—each 1% increase expected to generate about $3.5 million in new revenue—and the board plans up to $20 million in additional cuts over the next two years. - ➤ Community members gathered for a vigil outside police headquarters after Edward Henry died of a heart attack in jail, following a Tuesday arrest captured on body-camera footage. Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer worked with Senator Ashlei Spivey — who said community members seek transparency — as they plan to propose new body-camera guidelines in January. WOWT
