  • A shooting in North Omaha (near 61st Street and Camden Avenue) occurred around 2:30 Saturday morning and left one man dead and another critically injured as police continue investigating the scene.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Omaha-area school districts have repeatedly turned away transfer requests from students with disabilities because they lack enough special education staff—parents and lawmakers say this practice amounts to discrimination despite state rules that protect these students. Data show that many districts, including Bellevue and Papillion La Vista, rejected far more option applications from kids with IEPs than from other students.  Nebraska Public Media

  • The City of Omaha recently completed improvements at Dahlman Park by finishing Carlentini Plaza in Little Italy and approving a $255,000 contract to rebuild important park features.   • Mayor-elect John Ewing will take the oath today after a long police career, and he named his longtime friend Tom Warren as his chief of staff—bringing back a working partnership that began as classmates and rivals.
