COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army in Omaha relaunched its summer meals program at four local sites to help families who struggle to put food on the table (marking its second consecutive year). The initiative will offer meals and support throughout the summer.  Omaha World-Herald

  • Earlier this year, the Wade siblings officially took over BW Lawn Sprinklers, a legacy business built by their father using decades of irrigation expertise. They plan to expand services while maintaining strong community ties and sustainable practices (their new slogan is 'Better Watering. Stronger Roots. Brighter Lawns').  University of Nebraska Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • On June 1, 1898, Omaha hosted the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition (a major international event that drew over 2.6 million visitors) which showcased the region’s resources and industries.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Omaha Public Library launched its summer reading program on Monday, Jun. 1 (which runs through July 31) with kids receiving two free books and adults earning a voucher at the library book sale; participants can claim a prize after finishing their reading tracker.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 27, the ACLU of Nebraska held a mayoral pardons clinic at the Heartland Workers Center where residents met with attorneys to review past ordinance violations and discuss legal options (organized by Schmeeka Simpson); 26 people attended, and several learned they did not qualify for a pardon.  Flatwater Free Press
  • Workers are pouring concrete today for the Farnam Street bridge deck in Omaha as part of an ongoing local project. The work is closely monitored to ensure steady progress.  Omaha World-Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cars & Cures returns this Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Victory Lane Omaha, expanding to 200 cars plus a showcase of Jeff Gordon's 2002 winning car (Beetlejuice) to support local cancer patients. Organizer Nick Howe, a cancer survivor and former firefighter, said proceeds will help cancer care.  3 News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • University of Nebraska Omaha has hired Rob Fournier as its seventh baseball coach, and he brings strong leadership plus years of experience to guide the team in upcoming games.  WOWT
  • Adrian Dowell announced that Rob Fournier is the new head coach of Maverick baseball. Fournier joins after four seasons as an assistant at Western Kentucky and brings a 26 season record at Wabash Valley College with over 1,100 wins and 16 conference championships.  KFAB
  • Omaha Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Adrian Dowell announced Rob Fournier as the Mavericks' seventh head baseball coach. Fournier joins from Western Kentucky and brings 26 years of coaching experience at Wabash Valley College (Ojai native).  KFAB
