- ➤ Patty’s Childcare Center will open in the renovated former St. Rose Catholic Church building at 4110 South 13th Street—located on a 2-acre site near Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. - ➤ On May 24, the 5th annual Patriotic Parade kicked off Memorial Day weekend celebrations in the Old Market in Omaha. Omaha World-Herald
- ➤ Omaha's fifth annual Patriotic Parade will start at 10 am at 10th and Jackson Street as locals honor gold star families and those killed in combat during Memorial Day weekend. The parade follows a route from 10th and Jackson to 14th, then north to Howard, east to 10th, and back to Jackson—featuring special guests from the Mounted Color Guard of Fort Riley with six horses. - ➤ One person was seriously injured in a shooting early Saturday morning in northwest Omaha; police found the victim with a gunshot wound near 132nd Street and West Center Road (just before 1 a.m.) and the victim said the incident happened near 144th Street and Maple Road (with the suspect still at large). - ➤ Omaha Police are seeking 14-year-old Alaina Schweikert, who has been missing since May 21—she is 5 ft 4 in tall, weighs 120 lbs, and has brown hair and brown eyes, with officers saying she is not believed to be in immediate danger. KETV

- ➤ On May 23, the Lozier Foundation invested in literacy at UNO by creating a distinguished chair to support reading programs, research and community outreach.
