ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Strong winds on Sunday night knocked down trees in Midtown Omaha, damaging vehicles and prompting emergency crews to begin cleanup (with caution) as residents report ongoing disruptions.  WOWT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cold Stone Creamery, a national chain (with over 1,000 locations) is set to open a new store at 15602 Whiting Circle on the southwest corner of 156th and State Street in Bennington, and Wetzel’s Pretzels will open next door.  Grow Omaha
  • Duck Duck Bottle Shop is opening this week at 4917 Underwood Avenue in Dundee. The backyard bar and tea hangout (also a morning café) offers outdoor seating behind a historic house and serves food through a concession-style window while featuring a bottle shop in the basement (with a small performance stage).  Grow Omaha

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Omaha Planning Board approved a special use permit for Beyond Memory Care, a new dependent care facility on the southeast corner of 106th & Fort Street. The facility will include a 14,000 sqft, 1-story building on a 36,000 sqft lot with a garden, chapel & beauty salon.  Grow Omaha
  • Realtor Tim Reeder is restoring 6327 Florence Blvd, built in 1869, using local historic artifacts to preserve Omaha’s past. He plans to add a replicated barn plus a history garden to create a community hub for Florence events.  KETV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska’s softball team won against #21 Grand Canyon 1-0 in seven innings on May 17, advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals for the fourth time in school history. They will host the regionals for the first time in Lincoln and face the winner of the Stillwater regional.  KETV
  • The NSAA moved the state soccer championships to Tuesday, May 19 and Wednesday, May 20 due to severe weather expected on Sunday, while baseball games are set for today starting at 9 a.m. at Werner Park and Fricke Field (Papillion).  WOWT
