- ➤ Black Men United in Omaha is preparing for its annual No Murder in May luncheon to honor mothers, grandmothers, and now fathers who have lost loved ones to violence. Rev. Charles Nelson, whose daughter was fatally shot seven years ago, will serve as the first male MC as the group offers a space for community grief and healing. WOWT

- ➤ Officers served an arrest warrant near 149th and Bauman Avenue in unincorporated Douglas County and arrested retired Omaha Police Sergeant Christy Stevens for four counts of felony child abuse and one count of felony assault by strangulation while another suspect, Kenneth Beams, was taken into custody on charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child and four counts of felony child abuse—investigators said four juveniles were victimized. - ➤ The Malcolm X Foundation held a gathering Thursday in North Omaha to announce plans for a new Cultural Education Center and Museum honoring Malcolm X—celebrating his 100th birthday on May 19, declared Malcolm X Day by the Legislature. Mayor-elect John Ewing and local leaders attended the event, and the Foundation will host a series of events through June 1 to honor his legacy. WOWT

- ➤ Omaha native Terence “Bud” Crawford delivered the UNO commencement keynote on May 16th at Baxter Arena—he spoke on perseverance, service, and local pride to over 2,000 graduates while reminding them of his undefeated record as a four-division world champion. University of Nebraska Omaha

- ➤ The final ballots in the Omaha General Election were counted Friday, showing Mayor-elect John Ewing Junior with 53,322 votes and incumbent Jean Stothert with 40,423. A canvass and random hand counts will be done on May 29th — Election Commissioner Brian Kruse said they will verify polling place signatures to ensure the numbers match. KFAB
