GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ron Hug (District 4) won re-election to the Omaha City Council and will continue serving after being appointed in 2023 when Vinny Palermo lost his seat.  KETV
  • Omaha voters cast ballots Tuesday in seven City Council races where incumbents in Districts 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 led by large margins — in District 2, challenger LaVonya Goodwin advanced by 27 votes while Aimee Melton led the contest in District 7. Vote counts are incomplete and officials expect to announce final results later.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Voters headed to polling places yesterday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Omaha General Election that featured a mayor’s race between incumbent Jean Stothert and challenger John Ewing as well as seven city council seats. An 11-year-old boy was hospitalized after a crash near 56th and Ogden streets in North Omaha just before 5:30 p.m. Monday.  WOWT
  • LaVonya Goodwin, executive director of the North 24th Street Business Improvement District, defeated former council member Ben Gray to win the Omaha City Council District 2 seat. She said she will work to improve safety, beautify neighborhoods, and support small businesses in the district — marking a shift from the previous leadership.  KETV
