  • Two Omaha natives, Cheryl Mau Bramhall and Dan Vogel, recalled how the 1975 tornado nearly ended their lives when flying debris and a falling car struck near 70th Avenue in Blondo fifty years ago—both survivors described moments of terror and noted that the tragedy brought the community closer together.   • Omaha police are searching for a suspect after a shot was fired at a house with several people inside near 26th and Parker just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning—officials reported that shell casings were found and no injuries or arrests were reported.  KETV
  • Omaha police arrested Hsa Htoo, 39, Yu Htoo, 46, and Win Oo-Thein, 38 in connection with the May 18, 2024 shooting death of 35-year-old Kyaw Thu—each facing first-degree murder and criminal conspiracy charges.  WOWT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Casa de la Cultura will host Cinco de Mayo Omaha, a festival celebrating 105 years of Mexican culture from May 9 to May 11 in historic South Omaha. The free event will offer live music, colorful dances, and mouthwatering food — along with handmade goods that bring the community together.  KETV
  • A special screening of 'The Shawshank Redemption' is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Omaha Community Playhouse, where actor Bob Gunton will join film historian Bruce Crawford for a live conversation and autograph session—ticket proceeds will benefit local park projects.  KETV

  • John Ewing raised $455,000 in six weeks, narrowing the fundraising gap with Mayor Jean Stothert, who added $507,000 in new funds, & both now plan to boost their ad efforts before election day.
