BUSINESS NEWS

  • Berkshire Hathaway shareholders will converge in Omaha this weekend for an annual meeting at CHI Health Center arena, along with exclusive shopping at Borsheim’s, a picnic at NFM, and a downtown 5K run; visitors may also notice increased activity in the Blackstone area and along Happy Hollow Boulevard—areas linked with Warren Buffett’s legacy. The meeting will feature a Q&A session on Saturday morning followed by the main event later that day.  WOWT
  • Cannabis Factory will open soon at 3434 South 84th Street in a building that once housed the Omaha Fire Department’s hazmat unit and later Midwest Medical Transport Co.—the facility is being renovated into a retail store and the company’s new headquarters from 1215 South 13th Street. The company operates 21 locations and claims to be Nebraska’s top cannabis dispensary.  Grow Omaha

CRIME NEWS

  • Omaha Fire confirmed three bodies recovered from the Missouri River at N.P. Dodge Park — the bodies belong to missing teens Laiana Green and Lah K Tray Moo and 12-year-old Eh Cress Moo who vanished while fishing on April 15.  KFAB
  • The Omaha Police Department said two people were shot while doing yard work in a vacant North Omaha lot (near 27th St. and Patrick Ave) shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday (authorities are investigating the incident).  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Omaha voters will choose their next mayor when incumbent Jean Stothert seeks a fourth term against challenger John Ewing Jr. Early voting runs from April 28 until Election Day, May 13—and City Council members will also be elected as key issues like housing, transit and road repair remain under discussion.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Omaha voters face a choice in City Council District 1 between incumbent Pete Festersen + challenger Mark Brannen. Early voting began April 28 and continues until Election Day on May 13 as both candidates share their plans on affordable housing, public safety and city spending.  Omaha World-Herald

  • Gamescape by Cinemark, an indoor entertainment center featuring movie theaters, bowling, arcade games and laser tag, is set to be the first tenant at The Crossroads at 72nd and Dodge Street as announced by Woodbury Corporation and WRK Real Estate— a mixed-use project that will include residential, retail and office space; a groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled in June with construction to follow soon.  Grow Omaha
